We stripped the failed covering back and installed a new [SPEC — torch-on? how many layers?] felt system across the roof, with the edges dressed and sealed so wind can’t get underneath and lift it. On an exposed roof that edge detailing is the whole job. Wind uplift at the perimeter is what takes felt roofs off, not the felt itself giving way in the middle.
Felt is the right specification for a hut like this. It moves with a timber structure rather than fighting it, it copes with the temperature swing you get on a small roof with no thermal mass, and it can be dressed neatly into tight edges and awkward junctions. A rigid system on a hut this size would work loose long before the felt would.
The hut has a roof that will stand up to the Shoreham seafront year-round, and looks smart doing it.
